The Institute of Pharmaceutical Engineering of Zhejiang University was established in 2000. It is composed of the personnel engaged in drug research and development and manufacturing in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering. The Institute is mainly engaged in scientific research in the fields of natural medicine preparation technology, drug design and synthesis, green pharmaceutical technology and advanced preparation technology, including: natural medicine extraction, separation and purification methods and preparation processes, natural drug molecular structure modification and pharmacological effects, and environment. Drug synthesis and separation and refining technologies in friendly media (such as near-critical water, supercritical carbon dioxide, ionic liquids, etc.), continuous pipeline technology in drug synthesis, microwave reaction technology, biological and synthetic macromolecular construction targeting/sustained release, etc. Development of drug carrier systems, advanced functional materials and innovative dosage forms.
The Institute relies on the Key Laboratory of Biomass Chemicals and the Ministry of Education and the National Laboratory of Secondary Resources and Chemical Industry.
